Cesamet Overview

Updated:

Cesamet is a prescription medication used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy in people who have already taken other medications to treat this type of nausea and vomiting without good results.

Cesamet belongs to a group of drugs called cannabinoids. These work by affecting the area of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting.

This medication comes in capsule form and is taken up to 3 times a day, during a cycle of chemotherapy, with or without food.

Common side effects of Cesamet include euphoria (feeling "high"), vertigo (a sensation of motion or spinning that is often described as dizziness), and dry mouth.

Cesamet can also cause drowsiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Cesamet affects you.
