COVID-19 Update: 5/25/2020

US COVID-19 case count climbs to 1,637,456

(RxWiki News) The number of coronavirus cases continues to rise in the United States.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at publication time, 1,637,456 coronavirus cases and 97,669 related deaths had been reported in the US.

Compared to one month ago, this is a difference of nearly 800,000 cases and more than 50,000 deaths.

However, the CDC noted that the agency does not know the exact number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths. This is because symptoms might not appear immediately, there is a delay in reporting and testing, and they know many people are not getting tested or seeking medical care. Plus, the CDC noted that there may be differences in how states are confirming COVID-19 numbers.

In terms of how these numbers look for the states, 30 states have reported more than 10,000 cases of COVID-19.

Twelve states have reported more than 40,000 COVID-19 cases and deaths:

  • California (92,710 cases; 3,774 deaths)
  • Connecticut (40,468 cases; 3,693 deaths)
  • Florida (50,867 cases; 2,237 deaths)
  • Georgia (42,846 cases; 1,827 deaths)
  • Illinois (110,304 cases; 4,856 deaths)
  • Maryland (47,152 cases; 2,302 deaths)
  • Massachusetts (91,662 cases; 6,304 deaths)
  • Michigan (92,675 cases; 6,372 deaths)
  • New Jersey (154,154 cases; 11,133 deaths)
  • New York (358,844 cases; 29,046 deaths)
  • Pennsylvania (68,186 cases; 5,139 deaths)
  • Texas (55,348 cases; 1,519 deaths)

The majority of COVID-19 cases have been seen in those who are between the ages of 18 and 64.

The CDC continues to provide updates as new information becomes available.
