How Stress Saps Your Health

Stress and Sleep

Ever have nights when you can’t keep your mind off work for long enough to fall asleep? Stress could be the culprit. According to a 2007 study, seven out of 10 adults in the US report daily stress or anxiety, with one in three experiencing significant and persistent stress. An overwhelming majority of those with persistent stress also reported trouble sleeping and that their sleep problems resulted in increased stress and anxiety. Poor sleep quality is a serious issue on its own, as sleep deprivation can worsen symptoms and increase the risk of depression in patients with conditions like arthritis. Sleep troubles combined with persistent stress can end up making both issues worse, so it's important to take steps to identify and manage stress.
