The results were exciting — a study revealed that a medication lowered prostate cancer risks by nearly 25 percent. But researchers found that men taking the medication who did develop prostate cancer tended to have a more aggressive disease.

Baldness affects about 60 percent of men at some time in their lives.  Researchers now think baldness and prostate cancer may be linked in African American men.

Most prostate cancers are fed by male hormones called androgens. So treating the disease often involves blocking these hormones. It’s called androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and it’s been used for decades – but not without controversy.

Men can have elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels, and later undergo a biopsy only to find out that they do not have prostate cancer. That's a problem with PSA tests - they don't distinguish between benign (non-cancerous) disease and prostate cancer.

Cancer patients have to filter through a lot of very unfamiliar terms that only vaguely seem to make any sense. It's a lot to process, during a very emotional time.
