Ciclopirox is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections of the skin, nails, and scalp. Ciclopirox belongs to a group of drugs called antifungals, which work by stopping the growth of fungus.

This medication comes in topical solution, topical suspension, lotion, gel, and cream forms. These are applied to the affected area once or twice daily.

Ciclopirox also comes in a shampoo form that is to be applied to the scalp twice a week for 4 weeks total. Allow a minimum of 3 days between each use.

Common side effects of ciclopirox include redness of the skin and a burning sensation near site of use.
