Eucrisa

Eucrisa is prescription medication used to treat mild-to-moderate eczema (atopic dermatits) in patients 2 years of age and older.

Eucrisa belongs to a group of drugs called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. They work by blocking the action of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation.

This medication comes in ointment form and is applied to affected area twice daily.

Common side effects include burning or stinging of skin where the ointment is applied and allergic reaction.

Eucrisa is a prescription medication used to treat eczema (atopic dermatitis; a skin condition which causes the skin to be dry and itchy and to sometimes develop red, scaly rashes) in children 2 years of age and older. It is not known if Eucrisa is safe and effective in children under 2 years of age.

Eucrisa is for use on skin (topical use) only. Do not use Eucrisa in your eyes, mouth, or vagina.

This medication may be prescribed for other uses. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Serious side effects have been reported with Eucrisa. See the “Eucrisa Precautions” section.

Common side effects of Eucrisa include:

• pain, burning or stinging on the area of skin where the ointment was applied. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away

No drug interactions have been studied by the manufacturer. However, you should tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Not all drug interactions are known or reported and new drug interactions are continually being reported.

Serious side effects have been reported with Eucrisa including the following:

• Allergic reactions. Eucrisa may cause allergic reactions at or near the application site. These can be serious and may include hives, itching, swelling, and redness. If you have any of these symptoms, stop using Eucrisa and get medical help right away.

Do not take Eucrisa if you:

• are allergic to Eucrisa or to any of its ingredients

Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Eucrisa, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

Before taking Eucrisa, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

• are allergic to Eucrisa or to any of its ingredients
• are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
• are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

In animal studies, pregnant animals were given this medication and had some babies born with problems. No well-controlled studies have been done in humans. Therefore, this medication may be used if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn child.

It is not known if Eucrisa crosses into human milk. Because many medications can cross into human milk and because of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants with use of this medication, a choice should be made whether to stop nursing or stop the use of this medication. Your doctor and you will decide if the benefits outweigh the risk of using Eucrisa.

Take Eucrisa exactly as prescribed.

Eucrisa comes in ointment form.  Apply a thin layer of Eucrisa to the affected areas 2 times each day.

To use the ointment, follow these steps:

1. Wash your hands with soap and water.
2. Be sure that the skin in the affected area is dry.
3. Apply a thin layer of Eucrisa ointment to all affected areas of your skin. Rub the ointment into your skin gently and completely.
4. Wash your hands with soap and water to remove any leftover Eucrisa ointment. Do not wash your hands if you are treating them with Eucrisa ointment. If a caregiver has applied the ointment, they should wash their hands after applying the ointment

Eucrisa is for use on skin (topical use) only. Do not use Eucrisa in your eyes, mouth, or vagina.

If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Eucrisa at the same time.

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully.

The dose your doctor recommends may be based on the following:

• the condition being treated
• other medical conditions you have
• other medications you are taking
• how you respond to this medication
• your weight
• your height
• your age
• your gender

The recommended dose of Eucrisa 2% ointment is a thin layer applied to the affected areas twice daily.

If you use too much Eucrisa, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.

• Store Eucrisa at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F (20°C and 25°C).
• Keep the tube tightly closed.
