Inveltys is used to treat pain and inflammation after eye surgery. Contact lenses should be removed prior to instillation of Inveltys and may be reinserted after 15 minutes following administration.

Inveltys is a prescription medication used to treat pain and inflammation after ocular surgery. Inveltys belongs to a group of drugs called corticosteroids, which inhibit the inflammatory response of the body.

This medication comes in a liquid ophthalmic (eye) suspension and is given twice a day starting the first day of eye surgery and continues for two weeks after surgery.

Common side effects of Inveltys in clinical trials were eye pain and posterior capsular opacification. Inveltys can also cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Inveltys affects you.

Side Effects of Inveltys

Serious side effects have been reported with Inveltys. See the “Inveltys Precautions” section.

The most common adverse drug reactions in the clinical trials with Inveltys were eye pain and posterior capsular opacification, both reported in 1% of patients. These reactions may have been the consequence of the surgical procedure.

Inveltys Interactions

No drug interactions have been evaluated by the manufacturer. However, you should tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Not all drug interactions are known or reported and new drug interactions are continually being reported.

Inveltys Precautions

Serious side effects have been reported with Inveltys including the following: intraocular pressure increase, cataracts, delayed healing, and bacterial, fungal, and viral infections.

Inveltys can also cause blurred vision. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Inveltys affects you.

Inveltys Food Interactions

Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Inveltys, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

Before taking Inveltys, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to Inveltys or to any of its ingredients
  • have liver problems
  • have heart problems
  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Inveltys and Pregnancy

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Inveltys is not absorbed into the body following administration into the eye and used by the mother is not expected to result in fetal exposure to the drug.

Inveltys and Lactation

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Inveltys is not absorbed into the body by the mother following use.  Breastfeeding is not expected to result in exposure of the child to Inveltys.

Inveltys Usage

Administer Inveltys exactly as prescribed.

Inveltys comes in a liquid suspension form and is taken up to twice a day. Inveltys must be shaken one to two seconds before use. If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Inveltys at the same time.

Inveltys Dosage

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. The dose your doctor recommends may be based on the following:

  • the condition being treated
  • other medical conditions you have
  • other medications you are taking
  • how you respond to this medication
  • your weight
  • your height
  • your age
  • your gender

The recommended dose of Inveltys (loteprednol) for treating post-ocular surgical inflammation is one to two drops into the affected eye(s) twice daily beginning the day after surgery and continuing through two weeks after surgery.

Inveltys Overdose

If you take too much Inveltys, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.

Other Requirements

Store Inveltys upright at room temperature. Do not freeze. Do not use if tamper-evident overcap seal is not intact. Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.
