Phosphate is a charged particle that contains the mineral phosphorus. Phosphorus is important for building and repairing bones and teeth, helping nerves to function, and making muscles contract.
Phosphate is measured in milligram per deciliter (mg/dL)
The normal range for phosphate is 2.5 - 4.5 mg/dL
Technique
Blood draw
Preparation
Fasting is not required before the test.
What the results mean
A high level of phosphate in the blood is usually caused by kidney problems, acromegaly, tumors, or having too much vitamin D in the body.
Low values may be the result of severe malnutrition/starvation, alcohol dependence, or high calcium levels.
