Lumify Overview

Reviewed: January 15, 2018
Updated:

Lumify is an over-the-counter medication used to treat eye redness in patients 5 years of age and older.

Lumify belongs to a group of drugs called a selective a2 receptor agonists, which selectively targets redness, maintains the flow of blood and oxygen to the eye, and alleviates some of the potential side effects common to other eye redness relievers. Other medications which are classified as either alpha-1 or alpha-1/alpha-2 mixed receptor agonists (non-selective) are more likely to cause rebound redness and loss of effectiveness over time.

This medication comes as an eye drop and is taken up to four times a day.

Common side effects of Lumify include itching, foreign body sensation, tearing and pain.
