Mulpleta

Mulpleta is a prescription medication used to treat low platelet count in adults with long term liver disease who are scheduled to have a procedure.

Mulpleta belongs to a group of drugs called thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonists. TPO is a protein made by the liver that helps control the production of platelets. When TPO attaches to cells in the bone marrow, it stimulates production of the cells that make platelets.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken once daily, with or without food for seven days.

The most common side effect of Mulpleta is headache.

Mulpleta is a prescription medicine used to treat low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) in adults with chronic liver disease who are scheduled to have a procedure. Mulpleta is not used to make platelet count normal in people with chronic liver disease. It is not known if Mulpleta is safe and effective in children.

This medication may be prescribed for other uses. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that bother you or that do not go away. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

No drug interactions have been determined by the manufacturer. However, you should tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Not all drug interactions are known or reported and new drug interactions are continually being reported.

Serious side effects have been reported with Mulpleta including the following:

• Blood clots, including blood clots in the liver, may happen in people with chronic liver disease and who take Mulpleta. You may have an increased risk of blood clots if you have certain blood clotting conditions.

Do not take Mulpleta if you are allergic to Mulpleta or to any of its ingredients.

Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Mulpleta, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

Before taking Mulpleta, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:

• have a blood clot or have had a history of a blood clot.
• have any blood clotting problems, other than thrombocytopenia.
• are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Mulpleta may harm your baby.
• are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Mulpleta passes into your breast milk. Do not breastfeed during your treatment with Mulpleta and for at least 28 days after your last dose. Talk to your healthcare provider about the best way to feed your baby during your treatment with Mulpleta

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

In animal studies, pregnant animals were given this medication and had some babies born with problems. No well-controlled studies have been done in humans. Therefore, this medication may be used if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn child. Talk to your doctor about the potential risk to your unborn baby.

Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

It is not known if Mulpleta crosses into human milk. Because many medications can cross into human milk and because of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants with use of this medication, breastfeeding is not recommended while using Mulpleta. Do not breastfeed for at least 28 days after last dose of Mulpleta.

• Take Mulpleta exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to take it.
• Your healthcare provider will tell you when to start taking Mulpleta.
• Take Mulpleta 1 time each day for 7 days.
• Mulpleta may be taken with or without food.
• If you miss a dose of Mulpleta, take the missed dose as soon as possible on the same day and return to your normal schedule the following day.
• If you take too much Mulpleta, call your healthcare provider or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away.
• Your healthcare provider will check your platelet count before you start treatment with Mulpleta and before your procedure.

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully.

The dose your doctor recommends may be based on the following:

• The condition being treated
• Other medical conditions you have
• Other medications you are taking
• How you respond to this medication

The recommended dose/dose range of Mulpleta for the treatment of low platelet count in individuals with long term liver disease is 3 mg by mouth, once daily for 7 days.

If you take too much Mulpleta, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.

• Store Mulpleta at room temperature.

• Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.
