(RxWiki News) Two legends from the entertainment industry are fighting cancer, and one is apparently near the end of his final match. Both Andy Williams and Joe Frazier have announced their cancer fights.
Crooner Andy Williams has bladder cancer for which he is currently being treated. And former heavyweight champion, Joe Frazier, is in hospice after a short fight with liver cancer.
"Cancer does not discriminate, ask an oncologist how to fight it."
Williams issued a statement saying, "You may have read or heard that I have bladder cancer. It's true and I'm currently undergoing treatment to deal with it." The 83-year-old singer is best known for his rendition of "Moon River," a hit he originally recorded in 1961, which has been his theme song ever since. In 1992, he founded the Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri.
According to reports, Williams plans to resume performing in 2012.
Boxing legend, Joe Frazier, whose famous fights have included three matches with Muhammad Ali, was diagnosed with liver cancer only about a month ago. Now, the 67-year-old former heavyweight champion is being kept comfortable in a hospice facility in Philadelphia, according to his personal and business manager, Leslie Wolff.
Nicknamed "Smokin' Joe," Frazier toppled Ali in the 1971 "Fight of the Century." Ali won the next match, and the pair's final toe-to-toe - the so-called "Thrilla in Manila" rematch - was stopped after 14 rounds.
