(RxWiki News) If you're a woman, you know those days before the flow can be difficult, even hellish, for you - and those around you. Do not despair, nature has a remedy that's now clinically proven to work.
A recent study has shown that chaste tree extract is effective in reducing most physical and emotional premenstrual symptoms (PMS).
"Try Cyclopret for PMS symptoms."
Researchers were measuring the effectiveness of the herbal remedy in relieving 17 PMS symptoms, including: breast tenderness and swelling, water retention, abdominal cramps, headache, back and pelvic pain, changes in appetite, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, depression and tension.
The two-year study was conducted between 2005 and 2007 at the Gynecological Endocrinology and Women’s Health Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing, China
Trial participants included 67 women with moderate to severe PMS between the ages 21-44 years. They were given two self-assessment tools - a Premenstrual Syndrome Diary (PMSD) to chart the severity symptoms before and during the trial and the 36- item Premenstrual Tension Syndrome Self-Rating Scale (PMTS) questionnaire.
The extract formula used for the study was BNO 1095 tablets, the same extract contained in Cyclopret, manufactured by Bionorica. Participants received either one tablet of BNO 1095 or a placebo (sugar pill).
Women who received the herb experienced relief to some degree from all 17 symptoms. The symptom reductions ranged from 80.1 percent to 92.46 percent. The relief was greatest in pain and negative emotional symptoms. These improvements were greater than in the placebo group, except for adominal cramping.
These findings support a previous study that showed BNO 1095 reduced irritability, breast tenderness, food craving and cramps by at least 50 percent.
Results from this study are published in HerbalGram, a publication of the American Botanical Council.
