5 Common Football Injuries

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Injuries

An ACL injury, meaning damage to the anterior cruciate ligament found in the knee, can include stretching the ligament too far or tearing it. ACL injuries happen most often when the knee is hit from the side, is overextended or when changing directions quickly. Football is one of the most common sports where ACL injuries are seen. If there’s a popping noise at the time of injury, swelling of the knee or pain, there is a chance that a player’s ACL has been injured. Visit a doctor as soon as possible to get a correct diagnosis.
