All About Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been around since the 1980’s, which has helped spread awareness about this condition. But how much do you really know about breast cancer outside of the pink ribbon campaign? Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in US women, but it can also occur in men. While this cancer forms in the cells of the breast, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all breast lumps are cancerous — some breast lumps are caused by fibrosis or cysts. The most common type of breast cancer, called ductal carcinoma, typically begins in the milk ducts but it can also begin in the lobules or other breast tissues. Invasive breast cancer occurs when the cancer spreads from where it began to the surrounding body tissues.
