Balancing Life with Lupus
According to Dr. Askanase, no matter the severity of your illness, having lupus doesn’t mean your life is over. Patients need to look for a balance between monitoring their symptoms and doing the things they love. “I think that it's important for people to keep working and being active in their family, community and their workplace,” Dr. Askanase said. “I think that continuing to work and take care of things that people have always taken care of is anchoring.” Not letting this disease overwhelm you may require lots of support from family, friends — and especially your rheumatologist and psychotherapist. Remember lupus doesn’t have to get the best of you!
