Celebrities with Skin Conditions
US Senator and former presidential nominee John McCain has been diagnosed with melanoma not just once, but twice. Melanoma is a dangerous form of skin cancer that develops in the skin cells that produce melanin (the pigment that gives your skin its color). While the exact cause of melanoma is still unknown, exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds has been found to increase its risk. In 1993, Senator McCain was diagnosed with superficial (less dangerous) melanoma and, in 2000, he was diagnosed for a second time. Luckily, the cancer was safely removed. McCain has had two more superficial melanomas removed since his surgery in 2000.
