Install safety gates at stairs or in the doorways of rooms you don’t want your child to access. When buying safety gates, makes sure they children cannot easily open them. If you are looking to install a gate at the top of the stairs, make sure to purchase a gate that screws into the wall. If you have gates already, makes sure they do not have “V” shapes. The design of these older gates makes them large enough that a child’s head can become stuck. Install door knob covers for rooms where you do want children to enter. However, make sure the door knob covers you select can be easily opened by an adult during an emergency.
