Coping with Overactive Bladder

Medication

There are many medications used control the frequency and urgency of OAB. Some examples include tolterodine (brand name Detrol), oxybutynin skin patch (Oxytrol), oxybutynin gel (Gelnique), trospium (Sanctura), solifenacin (Vesicare), darifenacin (Enablex), mirabegron (Myrbetriq) and fesoterodine (Toviaz). These drugs help to relax the muscles that cause these issues. Common side effects can include dry eyes and mouth and constipation. Over-the-counter preparations, such as Biotene products, can be helpful for dry mouth. To avoid constipation, your doctor might recommend a fiber-rich diet or the use of stool softeners. Extended release forms of these medications may cause fewer side effects, however.
