Cystic Fibrosis 101

What to Expect

If your child has been diagnosed with CF, it’s important to know what to expect. Symptoms vary from patient to patient, but lung function typically begins to decline in early childhood. These problems also tend to continue throughout life. The mucus buildup can stop the absorption of food and key nutrients in the body, which can result in malnutrition and growth problems. In both men and women, CF can also affect the ability to have children. While a CF diagnosis can require a complete lifestyle overhaul, support groups can help put things in perspective and give you and your family somewhere to meet and talk to others affected by the disease.
