Volunteering for a cause may have the benefit of boosting your mood and sense of self-worth. A meta-study of 40 papers found that volunteering was linked with a decreased risk of depression and greater reports of well-being and life satisfaction. While a causal link wasn’t established, giving back may help to provide a sense of meaning and action, which can affect one’s mental health in return.
