Essential Nutrients for Children
The first thing to ask yourself before you prepare food for your child is this: Are these foods nutrient-dense? Nutrient-dense foods include whole fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean meats and poultry. Try to limit your child's intake of added fats and sugars, and replace any solid fats like butter with vegetable or nut oils. Nut and vegetable oils provide the body with essential fatty acids and vitamin E. It’s also important to remember that fruit juice is a no-no, unless you choose one with no added sugar.
