If you have a severe food, cosmetic or medicinal allergy, kissing someone after he or she has consumed something you are allergic to can be dangerous. An estimated 15 million adults and children have a food allergy in the US. One study found that it takes several hours before peanuts and peanut products are no longer detectable in a person’s saliva. Asking your partner to avoid the allergen can lead to a healthier kiss.
