Healthy Habits for Older Adults
Older adults may be more susceptible to illnesses. According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM), men over the age of 65 should get a blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes screening every few years. If you smoke or used to smoke, a lung cancer and osteoporosis exam may be recommended. The NLM recommends men over 60 get yearly prostate and colon cancer screenings, and yearly dental, physical and eye exams. Women over the age of 65 should get their blood pressure checked every two years, according to WomensHealth.gov. Bone mineral density tests, mammograms, pap smears and colorectal cancer screenings are also recommended. Talk to your doctor about your need for more specific screenings.
