Healthy Ways to Make Food Taste Better

The Food Ritual

We all have personal rituals we do throughout the day — maybe it’s your specific morning playlist or you can’t fall asleep until you double-check the locks — and one Harvard study found those who performed rituals before eating enjoyed their food more than those who did not perform such rituals. The participants who performed rituals reported higher overall enjoyment of chocolate, lemonade and carrots. In one trial, the participants’ ritual was to simply break a bar of chocolate a certain way before eating it. Your ritual could range from saying grace to breaking bread, but make sure you are the one performing it — the study also found those merely watching a ritual did not enjoy the same flavor benefits.
