Menopause Myths and Misconceptions
Most men and women find that maintaining their desired weight becomes increasingly difficult as they age. Despite this, weight gain during menopause isn’t inevitable. Similar to issues with sexual desire, the hormonal changes experienced during menopause transition may affect weight gain, but it isn’t likely to be the sole culprit. Instead, weight gain usually comes about through a combination of lifestyle and genetic factors, as well as biological factors related to aging in general. Weight gain can be minimized with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Along with the weight benefits that come with a healthy diet and physical activity, research suggests that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of developing various age-related conditions, including osteoporosis and dementia.
