Myth: Processed meats are a great addition to your sandwich.

Hot dogs, deli meat and bacon are some of America’s favorite fare, but these products could be seriously detrimental to your health. A recent study from The American Institute for Cancer Research that looked at the link between processed meat and colorectal cancer may have you rethinking your next sandwich. This study found that even small amounts of processed meats eaten on a regular basis can increase the risk of colorectal cancer by up to 36 percent. The World Health Organization just released a report that consuming processed meats may increase the risk of colorectal cancer. Dieticians may recommend staying away from packaged and processed meats, except for special occasions.
