NBA Stars Who Give Back
Dwight Howard joined the NBA as a young adult straight out of high school, stating that he wanted to use his faith and NBA career to reach out to his community. He was the first overall draft pick in 2004. In his 10 years in the NBA, Howard is an eight-time All-Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Outside of basketball, Howard has stayed true to his original promise, having been nominated for several awards that highlight his philanthropic efforts, including a nomination for the 2013-2014 NBA Community Assist Award.
