New Medicines of 2015

Utibron Neohaler

Utibron Neohaler is a prescription drug used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This single product contains two medications: indacaterol and glycopyrrolate. Indacaterol belongs to a group of drugs called long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonists, or LABAs. Glycopyrrolate belongs to a group of drugs called anticholinergics. Together these drugs work to keep the muscles around the airways relaxed to prevent symptoms such as wheezing, cough, chest tightness and shortness of breath. This medication is available in capsule form to use with a specially-designed inhaler. The capsules are inserted into the neohaler, punctured and then the powder inside is inhaled twice a day. Do not swallow Utibron capsules. Common side effects include sore throat, runny nose, high blood pressure and back pain. Utibron Neohaler is specifically indicated for long-term, maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with COPD.
