Power Outage: What You Need to Know

After a Power Outage

In terms of food, it would be best to discard anything that sat in temperatures above 40ºF for more than two hours. It’s also important to avoid trying food items to see if they’re spoiled — they may carry bacteria that can make you sick. If you are uncertain about whether a food is still at a safe temperature, you can use a food thermometer to check. Talk to your doctor about any medications that you think may have spoiled during the power outage. And make sure to fill up your emergency kit again with supplies like canned foods and batteries!
