Research has repeatedly shown a link between alcohol consumption and the risk of developing cancer. Nearly 50 percent of reported mouth, larynx and throat cancers are associated with heavy drinking. Prolonged, heavy drinking is linked to 36 percent of liver cancers. Studies show that alcohol raises estrogen levels in premenopausal women, which can play a role in developing breast cancer.
