Tips for Living with Type 2 Diabetes
Do you smoke? Did you know that smoking may increase the risk of diabetes and diabetes-related complications? If you smoke and have diabetes, you’re more likely to have trouble with your insulin dosing and with controlling your diabetes. Smoking with diabetes also increases your risk for heart and kidney disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking decreases blood flow to your legs and feet as well. This can lead to other health complications like infections, ulcers and possible amputation. Diabetes patients who smoke are also at a greater risk for diabetic retinopathy, an eye disease that can cause blindness.
