The Truth About Supplements
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, about half of all US adults take a multivitamin or other supplement on a regular basis. But are these supplements really helping our health? Some doctors don’t think so. After numerous studies, multivitamins were found to be unsuccessful at decreasing the risk of heart disease, cancer, mental health problems and early death. Larry Appel, MD, the director of Johns Hopkins Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, is one doctor who does not recommend a daily multivitamin. According to Dr. Appel, if a patient follows a healthy diet, he or she can get all of the necessary daily vitamins and minerals from food. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any vitamin or supplement.
