Understanding Chiari Malformations
Some patients with CM may experience symptoms, while others may not. According to the National Organization for Rare Diseases, symptoms can vary due to the type of CM, but some common symptoms include loss of sensitivity to hot and cold, numbness, less control over bowel and bladder functions and scoliosis (a sideways curvature of the spine). Patients may also experience pain, muscle weakness, spasms or even paralysis. Symptoms can develop over time or come on quickly.
