Red wine's potential health benefits look promising. However, more research is still needed on red wine. Neither the American Heart Association nor the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute recommend starting drinking alcohol just for the health benefits. Alcohol can be addictive, and can also cause or worsen other health problems. If you already drink red wine, do so in moderation. If you have questions about the benefits and risks of alcohol, talk to your doctor about specific recommendations for you.
