Wine Not? The Health Benefits of Red Wine

Wine May Improve Bone Density

Resveratrol (the heart-healthy compound in red wine) may also improve bone density, according to a study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. Men with metabolic syndrome — a condition tied to inflammation, which can lead to bone loss and often occurs in obese patients — took doses of the compound for 16 weeks. The researchers found that the men who took resveratrol had a higher bone density than those who did not. This study suggested that resveratrol may stimulate bone formation. According to the researchers, these findings may play a role in osteoporosis — a condition where the bones become brittle and less dense — treatment in the future.
