Soolantra Overview
Soolantra is a prescription medication used to treat inflammatory skin lesions associated with rosacea.
Soolantra belongs to a group of drugs called anthelmintics. These help to treat inflammatory skin lesions associated with rosacea through a mechanism that is not yet fully understood. The active ingredient in Soolantra has been shown to have both anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic activity.
This medication comes in topical cream form to be applied to the affected area(s) of the face, typically once daily.
Common side effects of Soolantra include a temporary skin burning sensation and skin irritation upon application.

Soolantra Precautions
Serious side effects have been reported with Soolantra including the following:
Serious allergic reactions. There exists the possibility for severe and/or life-threatening anaphylactic allergic reactions with use of Soolantra. Discontinue use and immediately get medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- sudden and abnormal swelling of the lips, tongue, and/or throat
- sudden appearance of a red blister-like skin rash (hives)
- sudden loss of blood pressure
- sudden difficulty breathing
Do not take Soolantra if you are allergic to Soolantra or to any of its ingredients.
Soolantra Food Interactions
Medicines can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Soolantra, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet.
Inform MD
Before taking Soolantra, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions. Especially tell your doctor if you:
- are allergic to Soolantra or to any of its ingredients
- frequently develop skin rashes
- have had a serious allergic reaction to a skin product in the past
- are currently using any other skin products on your face
- have any cuts, scars, tattoos, and/or piercings on your face
- are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Soolantra and Pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
The FDA categorizes medications based on safety for use during pregnancy. Five categories - A, B, C, D, and X, are used to classify the possible risks to an unborn baby when a medication is taken during pregnancy.
This medication falls into category C. No well-controlled studies have been done in pregnant humans. Therefore, this medication should only be used if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn child.
Soolantra and Lactation
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
It is not known if Soolantra crosses into human milk. Because many medications can cross into human milk and because of the possibility for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants with use of this medication, a choice should be made whether to stop nursing or stop the use of this medication. Your doctor and you will decide if the benefits outweigh the risk of using Soolantra.
Soolantra Usage
Use Soolantra exactly as prescribed.
Soolantra comes in topical cream form and is applied to the affected area(s) of the face, typically once daily.
Always follow your physician's instructions on use exactly. You may refer to the following section for additional information on appropriate use of Soolantra.
Administration
- Open the tube of Soolantra cream by gently pressing down on the child resistant cap and twist in the direction of the arrow (counterclockwise). To avoid spilling, do not squeeze the tube while opening or closing.
- To apply Soolantra cream to your face, squeeze a pea-sized amount of Soolantra cream from the tube onto your fingertip.
- Apply Soolantra to the affected areas of your face. Use a pea-sized amount of Soolantra cream for each area of your face (forehead, chin, nose, each cheek) that is affected. Spread the cream smoothly and evenly in a thin layer. Avoid contact with your eyes and lips. Soolantra cream is not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
- To close Soolantra cream, gently press down on the child resistant cap and twist to the right (clockwise).
If you miss a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and apply your next dose at the regular time. Do not apply two doses of Soolantra at the same time.
Soolantra Dosage
Use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully.

- other medical conditions you have
- other medications you are taking
- how you respond to this medication
- your age
The recommended dose of Soolantra for the treatment of inflammatory skin lesions associated with rosacea is a pea-sized amount applied to the skin of each area of the face (forehead, chin, nose, each cheek) that is affected.
Soolantra Overdose
If you apply too much Soolantra, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.
