Viroptic treats herpes keratitis (viral infection of the eye caused by the herpes simplex virus. Do not use for more than 21 days.

Viroptic Overview


Viroptic is a prescription medication used to treat a viral infection of the eye caused by herpes simplex virus. This medication belongs to a group of drugs called antiviral agents. Viroptic works by stopping the growth of the virus.

This medication comes in eye drop solution form and is applied to the affected eye every 2 hours while awake for a maximum daily dosage of 9 drops the first day. Then treat for an additional 7 days with 1 drop every 4 hours while awake for a minimum daily dosage of 5 drops.

Common side effects of Viroptic include mild, short-term burning or stinging upon use and eyelid swelling.
