Zirgan is a prescription medication used to treat herpes keratitis which is a viral infection of the eye caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Zirgan belongs to a group of drugs called antivirals. It works by preventing the spread of CMV disease or slowing the growth of CMV.

This medication is available as an ophthalmic gel to be applied to the eyes 5 times daily (every 3 hours while awake) until healing occurs, then 3 times daily for 7 days.

Common side effects of Zirgan include blurred vision and eye irritation. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Zirgan affects you.
