Cholesterol 101

What Are the Symptoms?

Unfortunately, high cholesterol has no symptoms and a blood test is the only way to detect it. The Mayo Clinic suggests patients have a cholesterol test at age 20 and be retested at least every five years. Doctors may recommend diet changes or more frequent tests if there is family history of high cholesterol, heart disease or other risk factors — such as smoking, diabetes or high blood pressure.
